The non-profit association SRIW (Selbstregulierung Informationswirtschaft e.V.) acts as a think tank on key issues in digital policy and as an umbrella organisation for a range of self-regulatory measures in the digital industry. We are calling for measures to support data and consumer protection in the digital world.
SRIW is active on many different levels to improve framework conditions and promote the use of alternative regulatory instruments such as co-regulation. It is also a member of the EU Steering Committee of the Community of Practice for Better Self- and Co-Regulation.
The Data Protection Code for geodata services secures a high level of data protection for panoramic street services such as Google Street View. SRIW monitors compliance with obligations under this Code, and informs the general public on how these services work.
SRIW reports regularly on current issues in digitalisation, engages in public debate and consultations, and provides information on its activities. Our archive offers access to SRIW publications and an overview of past and present statements and reports.
The aim of the PrivacyGuard research project supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is to simplify the protection of personal data for consumers on mobile devices. SRIW is coordinating interdisciplinary cooperation in this project, and contributing its legal expertise.
